_Lots are cast that a tenth of the people may constantly dwell_
_at Jerusalem, and the other nine parts in the other cities and_
_villages_, 1.
_Some willingly offer themselves to dwell in Jerusalem, and the_
_people bless them_, 2.
_An enumeration of the families that dwell in Jeru... [ Continue Reading ]
Verse Nehemiah 11:2. _ALL THE MEN THAT WILLINGLY OFFERED_] Some
_volunteered_ their services, which was considered a sacrifice to

Verse Nehemiah 11:3. _NOW THESE_ ARE _THE CHIEF_] A good deal of

Verse 23. IT WAS _THE KING'S COMMANDMENT_] By the _king_ some
understand _David_, and others _Artaxerxes_. It is most probable that
it was the latter; who wished that a provision should be made for

Verse Nehemiah 11:36. _AND OF THE LEVITES_ WERE _DIVISIONS_] The
Levites had their dwellings in the divisions of Judah and Benjamin.
This is probably the meaning: the _Syriac_ says, _They had the half of
Judah_ and _Benjamin_; which is not likely.
THAT the people whose hearts were now turned toward... [ Continue Reading ]
