convened, before the war began; after they had heard the account the
Levite gave of the affair, which brought them thither; and after they
had sent messengers to Benjamin to deliver up the men of Gibeah, that

BENJAMIN,.... Sent some messengers to them, to call them, and desire
them to come to them:

themselves in a cave in it, of which the people of Israel were
informed:

AND BENJAMIN CAME AGAIN AT THAT TIME,.... The six hundred Benjaminites
returned with the messengers at the same time to the people of Israel,
putting confidence in the assurances they had given them of peace and
safety:

an action against them, and desire they might be summoned before them,
