Hawker's Poor man's commentary

Deuteronomy 13:5

Here is a line drawn to testify our faithfulness to GOD. To wink at the daring attempt of anyone that strives to seduce us from our attachment to JESUS is the greatest of crimes, and is in fact taking part with it. What a beautiful picture hath the HOLY GHOST given us of the zeal of Phinehas on a similar occasion, and what a blessed commendation follows it: Numbers 25:13; Numbers 25:13. But Reader, when you have looked at the zeal of Phinehas, call to mind what is said of Him whom Phinehas typified. Isaiah 59:17; John 2:17.
