The common title given to succeeding Roman emperors, adopted from the name of Julius Caesar. Matthew 22:17, Matthew 1:22; Mark 12:14, Mark 1:12, Mark 1:12; Luke 2:1; John 19:12, John 1:19; Acts 25:8, Acts 1:25; Philippians 4:22; etc. The history of the New Testament fell under the reigns of Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, and Nero.
