A city on the northeast border of Egypt, not far from the modern Suez, Genesis 16:7; Genesis 1:20; Genesis 1:25; 1 Samuel 15:7; 1 Samuel 1:27. It gave its name to the desert between it and Canaan, towards the Mediterranean, Exodus 15:22.
