ZEPHATH
A Canaanitish city afterwards called Hormah, one of the "uttermost cities of Judah southwards," afterwards assigned to Simeon, Joshua 12:14; Joshua 1:15; Joshua 1:19. The name is supposed to be traceable in Sufah, a long and rough pass leading from the south up into the mountains of Judah. It was at Zephath that the Israelites were repulsed in attempting to ascend from Kadesh, Numbers 1:14-45; Numbers 1:21 Deuteronomy 1:44 Judges 1:17.
