Tigris Two great rivers, the Tigris and the Euphrates, flowed through Mesopotamia, a fertile region that in biblical times was part of the lands of Aram, Assyria, Babylon and Persia (Genesis 1:2-15; Daniel 10:4). The Tigris is rarely mentioned in the Bible, though it features as the river on which Assyria’s capital, Nineveh, was built (Nahum 1:2-8; cf. 3:8; See NINEveH).
