Go ye, inquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.

Allez, interrogez le Seigneur pour moi ... Pour "interroger le Seigneur", par les méthodes désignées, par Urim et Thummim, ou auprès des prophètes , était une phraséologie aussi courante chez les Juifs que de consulter un médecin ou un avocat. D'innombrables instances se produisent dans l'Ancien Testament (Genèse 25:22; Juges 1:1 - Juges 1:2; Juges 10:10 - Juges 10:14; Juges 20:18; Juges 20:23; 1 Samuel 10:21; 2 Samuel 16:23; 1 Rois 22:5 - 1 Rois 22:7; 2 Rois 3:11 - 2 Rois 3:12; 1 Chroniques 13:3). Les sentiments agités du roi l'ont incité à demander un conseil immédiat pour éviter les malédictions sous lesquelles son royaume était; et aussitôt une députation de ses principaux officiers fut envoyée à une personne dotée de l'esprit prophétique.
