Leur suspicion n'était justifiée ni par un acte manifeste ni par un dessein chéri de David: elle doit provenir de leur connaissance des dénonciations de la loi de Dieu contre eux (Deutéronome 23:3 - Deutéronome 23:6), et de la politique de David consistant à adhérer fermement à lui.
