Ils ont fait espérer aux autres ... - plutôt, 'ils espéraient' confirmer (i: e. faire bon) 'leur parole' par l'événement correspondant à leur prophétie. L'hébreu [ yichªluw (H3176)] l'exige (Havernick). La clause parallèle «ils ont vu la vanité» implique également qu'ils «ont cru leur propre mensonge» (2 Thesaloniciens 2:11). La révélation subjective est fausse, à moins qu'elle ne repose sur l'objectif.
