Matthieu 5:43-48

Y a-t-il jamais eu un tel raffinement de la loi la plus parfaite de l'Éternel, comme cela est dessiné ici? Et où chercherons-nous son accomplissement sinon dans le Seigneur JÉSUS lui-même ? Lui en effet, et Lui seul, l'observa dans toute son étendue. Et donc la fin du chapitre est expresse au but avec un oeil sur lui. Soyez parfaits ; c'est-à-dire dans la perfection de JÉSUS, car il n'y a pas d'autre moyen de trouver la perfection qu'en lui.

What men talk of respecting sincerity for perfection, is a fancy formed nowhere but in their own brain. But as the members of the body partake in all that belongs to the head, so the members of CHRIST'S body are considered perfect in him. And when JESUS saith be ye perfect, he wills what he commands; his biddings are enablings. Be ye perfect in me. Hence the answer by the Prophet; Surely in the Lord have I righteousness and strength: Or as the apostle renders it, perfect in CHRIST JESUS.

REFLECTIONS

HAIL! thou Almighty Prophet of thy people, blessed LORD JESUS! We praise thee for thy gracious proclamation in the Mount. Oh! grant thy people to be poor in spirit, rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom. Holy mourners we shall be when the Load hath convinced us of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. And Oh! for that meekness in JESUS, that hungering and thirsting for JESUS and his righteousness, as those who are conscious that they have neither in themselves, and seek all in the LORD.

Defer not, O our God, to induce all those graces of thy Spirit in the hearts of all thy redeemed, that mercy they may learn from thee, purity of heart find in thee, and as children of God, may walk in peace and love, as CHRIST also hath loved us, and given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to GOD for a sweet smelling savor. And to all the persecutions and revilings of life, be looking stedfastly to JESUS, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despised the shame, and is set down on the right hand of the Majesty on high I And grant dearest LORD, while learning under the influences of thy Holy Spirit, to mortify the deeds of the body that we may live.

Oh! car la grâce de vivre de nous-mêmes de toi et de ta plénitude, et de ne jamais perdre de vue un seul instant que tu es à notre place et à notre salle d'audience tout ce qui est ici enjoint, et que tu as à la fois magnifié la loi et l'a rendue honorable, et accompli le tout pour nous et notre salut. Ouais! béni JÉSUS ! tu es l'Éternel notre justice, et tout ton peuple est juste en toi. Amen.
