Nehemia 2:18

Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king's words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for [this] good [work].

Ver. 18. Then I told them of the hand of my God] i.e., of his gracious providence in prospering me in all.

As also the king's words] Which were likewise very gracious and comfortable. Now he that hath both God and the king on his side, what would he have more?

E dissero: Alziamoci ed edificamo ] Così forti sono le parole giuste, pronunciate in modo mite e moderato, come qui. Alziamoci, dicono loro. Non indugiamo più, ma presto cadiamo al lavoro; e recuperare con la nostra diligenza ciò che i nostri padri hanno perso con la loro disobbedienza.

Così hanno rafforzato le loro mani per questa buona opera ] Si sono fatti coraggio e hanno concluso con essa. Tanto bene può fare alla Chiesa un uomo di luogo, di potenza e di zelo, suscitando l'amore e le buone opere. Si dice della pietra preziosa Pirite, che non sprigiona il suo potere ardente finché non è ben strofinata; e poi fa così caldo che brucia le dita.
