I ventiquattro anziani - Manca la parola εικοσιτεσσαρες, ventiquattro, nei manoscritti più eminenti. e versioni.

Fell down and worshipped - Επεσαν και προσεκυνησαν· Fell down on their knees, and then prostrated themselves before the throne. This is the eastern method of adoration: first, the person worshiping fell down on his knees; and then, bowing down touched the earth with his forehead. This latter act was prostration.

Him that liveth for ever - This clause is wanting in ABC, thirty-seven others, Syriac, Arabic, Coptic, Ethiopic, some copies of the Slavonic, Itala, and Vulgate; and in Andreas, and Arethas, ancient commentators on this book. It is also wanting in some editions, and is undoubtedly spurious. Griesbach has left this and the above twenty-four out of the text.

Ora segui le parti meno intelligibili di questo libro misterioso, sul quale tanto è stato scritto, e tanto invano. È naturale che l'uomo desideri essere saggio; e più l'argomento è difficile, più lo si studia, e la speranza di trovare qualcosa di cui il mondo e la Chiesa possano trarre profitto, ha fatto sì che gli uomini più eminenti dotti impiegassero i loro talenti e consumassero il loro tempo su queste astruse profezie.

Ma a che cosa è servito all'umanità tutto questo lavoro dotto e ben intenzionato? L'ipotesi può spiegare la profezia e la congettura trovare una base su cui poggiare la fede? E cosa abbiamo di meglio in tutti i tentativi fatti finora per spiegare i misteri di questo libro?
