III. VERITÀ ED ERRORE

CAPITOLO 2:18-27

Questa sezione contiene un monito che è rivolto ai neonati, ai fanciulli, ai giovani credenti. Verità ed errore, sono contrapposti. I seduttori cercavano di sviarli, perché leggiamo in 1 Giovanni 2:26 : "Queste cose ti ho scritto riguardo a coloro che ti seducono". Ricorda loro che è "l'ultima volta", un'espressione sorprendente, perché da quando è stata scritta sono passati secoli, e ciò che era vero allora è vero adesso, che è l'ultima volta; solo il Signore sta ancora pazientemente aspettando, non volendo che alcuno perisca.

Cristo è stato manifestato, la verità rivelata in Lui e il mondo ha rifiutato Lui e la sua verità. Satana divenne il dio di questa epoca, con il mistero dell'iniquità operante in esso fin dall'inizio. L'anticristianesimo non è una novità dei nostri tempi; era qui fin dall'inizio. Giovanni scrive: "Anche adesso ci sono molti anticristi, per cui sappiamo che è l'ultima volta". E l'ultima volta ha i suoi “ultimi giorni” che sono ormai alle porte.

L'anticristianesimo sta crescendo da tutte le parti finché l'Anticristo, l'uomo del peccato, sarà rivelato ( 2 Tessalonicesi 2:1 ). Un anticristo non è un feroce trasgressore della legge, un vero e proprio uomo immorale. Un anticristo è colui che rifiuta Cristo, che non ammette le sue pretese; che nega che Gesù è il Figlio di Dio.

È di grande significato che Giovanni parli degli anticristi del suo tempo come usciti dal corpo professante dei cristiani ( 1 Giovanni 2:19 ). Non erano veri credenti ma solo professavano la fede, avevano lasciato il gregge ed erano entrati nell'apostasia, "affinché potessero essere resi manifesti che non erano tutti noi".

In 1 Giovanni 2:22 abbiamo un'immagine degli anticristi dei giorni di Giovanni e una profezia dell'anticristianesimo fino alla fine dell'era quando il grande oppositore apparirà in una persona, l'anticristo personale. “Chi è bugiardo se non colui che nega che Gesù è il Cristo? È l'anticristo che nega il Padre e il Figlio.

Chi nega il Figlio non ha il Padre. Chi confessa il Figlio ha anche il Padre». L'anticristianesimo è la negazione che Gesù è il Cristo. Include ogni negazione della persona del Signore Gesù, la negazione che Egli è il Figlio di Dio venuto nella carne, la Sua nascita verginale e che Egli è stato inviato dal Padre. Tali smentite furono importanti durante la vita di Giovanni. Lo gnosticismo turbava la Chiesa. Hanno negato la messianicità e divinità del Signore Gesù Cristo. Altri sistemi erano presenti in embrione, conosciuti in seguito con il nome di arianesimo, ecc. Negando il Figlio negarono anche il Padre.

Queste sono affermazioni importanti per i nostri giorni, gli ultimi giorni dell'era presente. Ciò che è iniziato nei giorni in cui lo Spirito Santo ha scritto questa Epistola è ora completamente cresciuto nel mondo. Riguarda noi in varie forme in tutta la chiesa professante, solo con questa differenza, gli apostati all'inizio erano più onesti degli apostati dei nostri tempi. Erano nella chiesa professante e quando hanno cominciato la loro negazione sono usciti, si sono separati dalla vera Chiesa.

Gli apostati di oggi rimangono nella chiesa professante e mantengono esteriormente una professione cristiana, così che diventa dovere solenne dei veri credenti separarsi da questi nemici della croce di Cristo. Negano sia la speranza ebraica, che si incentra nelle promesse del Messia, sia la speranza cristiana, che è il Padre e il Figlio. Rifiutano le verità dell'Antico e del Nuovo Testamento.

Parlano del Dio di Abramo, che ha promesso che il seme sarebbe venuto da Abramo, come un dio tribale. Fanno causa comune con gli apostati ebrei nel negare che ci siano predizioni riguardanti il ​​Messia nell'Antico Testamento.

Diamo solo un esempio di questo fatto. Gli ebrei negano che il cinquantatreesimo capitolo di Isaia sia una profezia messianica; viene spiegato che il servitore di Geova significa la nazione Israele e non il Cristo di Dio. Questa visione infedele è sostenuta oggi da molti predicatori e insegnanti in varie denominazioni evangeliche, nonostante il fatto che il Nuovo Testamento ci dica che è Cristo di cui parlava Isaia. Rigettando Isaia 7:14 , la profezia riguardante la nascita verginale, rifiutano la nascita verginale stessa, e proferiscono sfacciatamente la più grande bestemmia che le labbra umane possano pronunciare, che Cristo sia nato come qualsiasi altro uomo.

They speak of Him as a great leader and teacher, as having divinity in Himself, in a degree higher than found in the rest of the race. His absolute deity is not believed; that He is the propitiation for sins is sneered at, that He will ever appear again in His glorified humanity in a second visible and glorious manifestation is ridiculed.

Thus antichristianity is present with us in the camp of Christendom in such a marked and universal way as unknown before. With denying Christ they deny the Father. All that we have seen in this Epistle concerning Him, the true God and the eternal life, fellowship with the Father and with His Son, walking in the light, the advocacy of Christ and loving the brethren, is denied by them. They speak of “love”; they speak of toleration and the “Christ- spirit.

” But those who are the brethren, who contend for the faith once and for all delivered unto the saints, who believe on the Son of God, in His sacrificial work on the cross, are denounced by them, belittled and branded as fanatics. And the end is not yet. Let them continue in their evil ways under the guidance of the lying spirit of darkness and they may yet stoop to actual persecution of those who constitute the body of Christ.

The conditions in Christendom today are the most solemn the true Church of Jesus Christ has faced. The heading up in “the Antichrist” cannot be far distant. As John writes these Christ-deniers, these blasphemers, who make the Holy Son of God the offspring of--we dare not finish the sentence! --may speak of “the Father,” but they have not the Father, because only those who confess the Son of God, Christ come in the flesh, have the Father.

John writes all this to the babes, young believers, warning them against the lie. He useth the word “liar,” for such the apostates are. In using this word repeatedly, he reveals his character as “Boanerges”--the son of thunder. Then he tells these babes how they may be guarded and kept. He reminds them that they have the anointing of the Holy One, that is, the Holy Spirit dwelling in their hearts and with Him they have the capacity to know and judge all these things. If they follow His guidance in and through the Word they would be kept in the truth and guarded from accepting the lie.

Let us again remember it is not the fathers, or the young men John addresses, but the babes. Here is a strong argument against the teaching so widespread among true believers, that the Holy Spirit is not given to a believer in regeneration, but that the gift of the Spirit must be sought in a definite experience after conversion. This is a serious error which opens the door to the most subtle delusions as found in certain Holiness sects and Pentecostalism.

1 Giovanni 2:24 gives another instruction and exhortation. It is the truth concerning Christ, which they had heard from the beginning, which abiding in them will keep them. And besides “the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you, but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.

” The teachers in this instance who tried to seduce them (1 Giovanni 2:26) were not gifts of Christ to His body, but false teachers, who came with a lying message. They did not need these teachers; the Holy Spirit was their teacher and infallible guide, but never apart from the written Word. All false teaching they were to repulse and fall back upon Him who guides in all truth. They were safe against all error as they abided in that.
